Tips to Staying Safe
Staying connected online is a great way to learn, shop, and keep in touch. Here are a few simple ways to stay safe while you do it.
🔑 Use strong passwords
Create unique passwords for each account. Mix letters, numbers, and symbols, or use a password manager to keep track of them securely.
💻 Think before you click
Be cautious with emails or texts from unknown senders. Don’t click links or open attachments unless you’re sure they’re safe.
🔒 Check for secure sites
Only share personal or financial information on websites that start with https://. The lock symbol and the “s” mean the site is secure.
⚙️ Keep your devices updated
Turn on automatic updates for your phone, computer, and apps. Updates help protect you from the latest online threats.
🛒 Shop and share safely
Buy only from trusted websites and use a credit card for extra protection. Avoid posting personal details like your address or full birthday online.
🚫 Watch out for scams
If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Legitimate companies and government agencies won’t ask for passwords or full Social Security numbers by phone or email.
🤝 Ask for help
If something looks suspicious or confusing, check with a trusted friend or family member before taking action.
